Jesus spells God

yesterday at summer camp, we were in the middle of eating snack when one of the boys pointed to a picture of Jesus with the name "Jesus" written in giant letters above it. and this is the question he asked me:

"does that say God?"

-"no not quite....but youre close! what letter does it start with?"

"J-E-S-U-S!"

-"yes! and that spells....?"

"God."

-"well no actually it spells Jesus, but thats close."

"well....Jesus is God right?"

-"yess......"

"so...then it can also spell God."

i love theological discussions with 4 year olds.

"The Foolish Man"

i dont know how i didnt make this the top of my priority list the other day. it may be one of the funniest stories this year. (remember all names have been changed to protect the innocent.)

"ms. c! johnny is being a foolish man."

"a what?"

"a foolish man."
(obviously this isnt normaly in a 4yr olds vocabulary so we were having trouble figuring out what she was saying and if she even knew what it meant.)

"and how is johnny being a foolish man?"

"well, he wasnt sharing the ball and i wanted to play with it and the bible says if you arent being nice then youre being a foolish man."

how are you supposed to react to that. what is the proper response besides an open mouth stare. after we overcame the initial shock factor we told her yes, that is correct, he is not being very nice. but rather than complaining about wanting the ball or whatever johnny had, she just smiled and walked away. ah kids. and their wisdom.

This is How I Argue

i get to be the receptionist all day today. all day. do you know what kind of power i have? i get to write tardy slips! our administrative assistant isnt here today, so they called me in to work for her. WOOOOOOO!!!! this also means i get fill in things that happened on all those days when i didnt write anything. and write little things that happen right when they happen which is what im about to do right now. just listen to this great little convo i overheard between two little boys:

"hey look at my shirt. im going to water day at my school. thats why im wearing this shirt. its water day."

"haaaaaaahh....no its not."

"yes it is!"

"hahaha no."

"YES!"

"haha no. this is how i argue at my house. no"

if thats not the greatest argument you have ever heard, i dont know what is.

ps - the time is now 9:12am.
cuurent tardy slip count: 8

pps - time: 11:32am.
current tardy slip count: 12

2 things...

1.) today is the third to the last day of school, so the kids have been drawing us more pictures than normal. and by "more than normal", i mean 87 as opposed to 12. so today, one of the girls brought me a card she had made me (super cute).

"oh i love it! i'm going to hang it on my refrigerator when i get home so i can see it every day."

"ok! but make sure you put it up high so your little sister wont get it."

i would have definately taken this into consideration 14 years ago, but seeing as how my little sister is now 18 and about 4inches taller than me that would just be silly.

2.) two of the boys were doing a puzzle together, when one of them ran over to us in tears.

"what's wrong?"

"well i was doing that puzzle and i didnt want him to help me, but he did and i wanted to do it by myself!"

"well did you tell him that?"

"no..."

"well why dont you tell him right now why you're upset." - (by this time the other boy had come over to tell his side of the story and make sure he wasnt going to get into any trouble.)

"well....well....i cant remember why i was upset right now because i was just telling my mom how i'm a forgetter and i forget why i'm upset sometimes!"

oh kids.

Shoes

the other day we were outside playing on the playground and noticed one of the little girls was running around a little awkwardly. most 4 year olds run a little awkwardly and uncoordinated, but this was worse. when we called her over to find out why, we discovered her disney princess shoes were on the wrong feet. so the princesses were now on the insides of her shoes instead of facing out. and this is what she said:

"did you know you put your shoes on the wrong feet?"

"oh yes!"

"why dont you change them! that must not feel very comfortable."

"well i like to put them on like this so the princesses can talk."

AWESOOOOMME!!!!

recently, our class has become obsessed with the word "awesome". at first, it was just one boy who would say it during movie time if there was some really cool scene in bugs life or finding nemo or whatever. but then it eventually spread to the rest of the boys who started putting it into conversation as much as possible. and they cant just say 'awesome'. they have to say it in low, raspy man-voice and really drag out the '-some' part.

Examples:

1.)"hey kids, time for snack."

-"AWESOOOOOOOMMME!!!"

2.)"hey kids, its movie time."

-"AWESOOOOOOOMMME!!!"

3.)"hey kids, dora the explorer is on sabatical. so we cant ever watch it again."

-"AWESOOOOOOOMMME!!!"

4.)"hey kids, your parents called, theyre not coming to pick you up until next tuesday."

-"AWESOOOOOOOMMME!!!"

it seems to be the most logical response to anything that happens during the day. the word of the year last school year however, was 'shamoo'. yes, like the whale at sea world. anytime there was a herd of them together on the playground ( a herd is a group of 8-56 preschoolers), they would start chanting: "SHAAAAMOO!!! SHAAAAMOO!!! SHAAAAMOO!!!" over and over again until the entire playground was chanting along with them. i dont know where it started. maybe one of the kids went to sea world for the first time and saw shamoo and thought that by saying his name over and over again he would suddenly flip out of the ground and splash everyone in invisible water. but since it didnt work the first time, he convinced his friend to do with him; because obviously since shamoo doesnt have visible ears he probably cant hear very well. i dont know. who understands the mind of a 4yr old?

upside down

lots of stuff fun stuff happened yesterday and today, but i havent had time to write about them. ill do it later, i promise. but for now, im going to leave with a very profound quote from one of my fours today on the playground.

"ahhhh!"
"is everything ok"
"yeah! when im upside down......everything ELSE is upside down."
